The NIC Paraguay is the official registry that is in charge of .py registration. Launched in 1991, the .py extension is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) approved by ICANN for the Republic of Paraguay, a landlocked country in South America. The .py domain name is sponsored by Centro Nacional de Computacion and Universidad Nacional de Asuncion.
All registrants seeking a .py domain name must have a contact in Paraguay. In the case of companies or organizations, it is essential to have a constituted presence within the country. Alternately you must have an authorized administrative contact in Paraguay. The chosen domain name can have two to sixty three characters, but it is recommended to have characters ranging from five to twenty-four. The domain name applied for must be the name of the organization, trademark or a name representing the organization's function. An applicant does not have any right to use the names of other established organizations or those names owned by some other party.
The second level domains specified in the domain name helps to identify the nature of the domain. Following are the sub domains that can be created under .py extension:
- .org.py for non-governmental and non profit making organizations
- .com.py for any organization
- .mil.py for military institutions in Paraguay
- .edu.py for educational institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture
- .net.py for Internet Service Providers
- .gov.py for governmental institutions
After technical verification is carried out within the time frame of 24 hours counting from the time of receiving the application, the applicant will receive the request email of confirmation of the request. If the request of confirmation is approved, then the registrant should pay the registration fee for one year within fifteen days from the date of approval. The .py registration will be activated within two working days on reception of payment. |
